Ciaran founded FlexTime in 1983 and is owner and CEO responsible for the everyday running of the company and international sales. Prior to setting up FlexTime (known as MultiTime in the UK), he worked in the IDA, Ireland's Industrial Development Authority, for over 2 years assisting companies which were setting up in Ireland, process their government grants.
Before the IDA, Ciaran studied Method Study (time and motion) and Hospital Administration. His 3 years working at the Coombe Maternity Hospital in Dublin coincided with the era of the highest inflation rate possibly ever seen. During his time in the health service, he developed and set up an innovative system to compare costs of services and products. This took the inflationary element out of the equation so that services and products could be compared for their "real" costs and better value could be delivered.
A vital aspect of Ciaran's work has been in the consulting aspect of implementing flexible working and new shift arrangements. This has been across different sectors, carried out in sessions with management, staff and then often with trade unions. A testimony to the success of such endeavours is that in addition to the major state and private sector bodies, now most trade unions in Ireland have themselves introduced FlexTime's VisionTime system including those at Congress.
A further focus that Ciaran has is in ensuring that regular research is carried out on the subject of working time in association with universities. This is intended to safeguard the integrity of the research, and, in one instance, resulted in the winning of an important award in the US, which then went on to become a published paper.
